Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. At the age of five, she moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled in an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor by the age of six. Through the years, she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing dance, acting and singing. She had already performed in numerous Stagecoach and school productions by the time she was 10 years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book began in 1999. Casting agents discovered Emma via her Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for these characters. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. It broke all records for the opening weekend and revenues, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics have praised both the film as well as the performance of the three young actors. The well-known British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Then Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her performance in the film winning her the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film.
